just for your information here are the following items from GW itself

when you report someone(with the asked for information) they will investigate.

your report on them goes to the end of a long line that may take days/weeks to get to but it will be investigated.

due to privacy regulations you will not be notified of the results.

they may be banned for a few days a week/month later.

if they have a proven track record of multiple offences they will lose the account (perma ban).

that is why it is important to report scammers (with screenshots on any big deal) because if your report is not the one to permaban him/her maybe the next one will do it.

also MCS on this forum has a long track record of being the middleman on over 100k trades to prevent fraud.

Actually, their reply was rather prompt and they "reviewed the game logs of this incident and taken the appropriate action based on the information from the logs". This incident is now set to a "closed" status and the player is still online.

each incident adds up and maybe the next one.

the important thing is he/she is getting a rap sheet that will catch up with them. (Gaile said so and i believe her)

I don't understand the complaints about the Piken's Square Scam. I did it and got the XP for it with one of my characters. Of course, I got the quest before I got the ashes.

On another note, I've been accused of scamming by whispering players by offering to buy Char Hides for 20-30 GP. This is 5 times the amount the merchant offers. If they sell it to me, fine. If any asks what I want with it, I tell them I trade the hides for other stuff. True enough, but not complete.

When pressed, I tell them to sell me their hides or go away, or if in a charitable mood, I tell them exactly what I am doing with the collector in Ascalon.

There is a line between scamming and making money because you have more complete information than the other player. They are till doing better with me than the merchant, so they should be happy.

People are working on double scams now...Last night I typed

WTS wood and silver dyes.

2 guys consantly pm'ed me saying

''I'll buy 4 silver for 1.2k please, i really need them''

''I'll buy 4 wood for 1.2k please, i really need them''


Obviously I wasn't interested in the first offer, just the second. But these scammers kept on opening my trade offering 1.2k for the silver then closing trade, the other guy would open trade and ask for 4 wood, then he'd close and the other would open trade asking for silver. In the end I told both of them to RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO off, I'm not selling silver or wood.

I never saw this scam but i just notice it when i was rune farming. I got a sup warrior rune i id and it was sup tactics when i go tot he rune trader i saw that the icons of a sup tactics are just the same as the icon of a sup abosorption so my advice is never buy an un-id absorption rune!!! I SAY NEVER!!!!

All Warrior superior runes have the same graphic. Absorption is a Warrior rune so it looks the same.

However a Superior Vigor has a unique graphic so its quite safe to buy one of these unidentified.

Well, speaking of Brohn's Holy Rod scams..... I wouldn't be surprised if this was the same person:

This morning,husband fell victim to a scammer---and he did everything 'right' in the trade (no g instead of k offered, etc)

He was selling a Sup Absorb. The guy obviously works with a partner (upon reflection) since husband was in Drok's selling and the guy whispered him from LA dist 1. So husband, thinking it odd but ok, went to LA 1. The guy put up 95K, husband put up the rune. Husband double checked the gold amount offered and clicked accept. The guy said hold on, he was "having lag" (which we can certainly empathize with the last few days). The trade was attempted 3 times, lending creedence to the lag story.

The third time, husband clicked accept, again ensuring that the gold was present. The other person promptly retrieved his gold from the window and acccepted the rune without payment. Husband then tried to open trade or otherwise get his gold, the person remained "in trade" except for a brief moment when he showed husband a Rune of Sup Hammer and then fled the game altogether.

You can bet Anet got a report on this! Problem is, LA was so busy that by the time husband collected his thoughts (just a few seconds), it was too late to get a screenshot of the text of the transaction. All the trade and chat had already dissolved the words.

You guys wanna hear a pleasant scam story? Get comforatble, it's pretty long.

Okay, so I have been poor in the game since I began GW (it's been like 4 months now, and I still only have 1k in storage) because I usually spend as I get. Anyways, that's besides the point. So, my friend says I should go into the Underworld if I want to get decent money. He said he solos UW, gets ecto, then sells for 10k each (you know, back when people craved ecto).

So I was like, that's cool, and decided to travel to ToA. Well, I had my ranger at this time, and so I joined a team. All 8 of us traveled into the UW, and we died after the first group of Aatxe. Me, being a noob, decided, "Ah, well this is fun, let me go again. LFG: UW". Got another team of 8, and so on, until the builds came out, you know, SS nec + 55 monk, 3- or 4-man trap teams, so on, and so forth.

So, I took up trapping. I already had capped spike trap and had all the others. Bought Mantra Of Resolve, and brought along EoE. It was really fun, luring the Aatxe into our deadly traps, and then lag as soon as all of them went off. I loved this for 3 days, then my friend had this crazy idea to make a "personal minion factory" and farm for greens. I was like, "Are you kidding?"... but little did I know that by me being designated to be the saccer, it would later prove to bring me where I am now.

I made my Necro, and capped Blood is Power, and bought all the Superior runes to get my health down to 105, and finally got a -50hp offhand to get me down to 55 health. So, with that done, I was able to be a saccer. My friend was making his MM, and his friend was making a Rezmer, and I think he was gonna have the Heal Area monk be the rezmer as well, but anyways, this never happened. So, I had this saccer that I spent decent money on to make, but with nothing to do with him.

So, I just happened to be in ToA when we had favor, and I saw the message "55 monk LF SS / SV NECRO for 2-man smite run!" First of all, I didn't know what a smite run was. Secondly, I saw the words UW, and next thing I know, I'm whispering the guy asking him what a SS / SV nec was and what a Smite run was. He answered me, and thus I found out about a possible way to use my necro. So, I bought different armor so I was at normal health, but could still go back to 55 in case I was ever needed (I did some saccing for MF in HoH too). It was a good thing I did keep that armor.

So, I was in a rut. Spells costed 1k each by this time, and so I got some money from someone, and capped SS. Then I bought all my other skills needed, and was ready. So I went back to ToA and searched for a 55 monk. I found one, and then I paid him 500g and we traveled to the dark, eerie Underworld. My monk tanked, I casted SS like crazy, and it was fun. Then, the best thing had ever happened to me: I got my very first ecto.

I was excited telling everyone I know, and then when I was done basking in my glory, I traveled to Ascalon City to sell it. I sent my announcment, "WTS 1 ECTO: 10k" and I got a whisper within 5 minutes. The guy tells me he would like to buy my ecto. In all honesty, I don't remember his name.

So, I was jumping with excitement, but I tried not to show it in my reply. "Sure, I'm by merchant." So he came. I saw that 10k flash up there in the trade window, and my heart stopped. I had the chills... this would be the most money I've ever had... EVER. So, I put my ecto into the slot, clicked on "submit" and clicked on "accept". Then I said, "Thx." I was so happy, my first ecto! The highest amount of money I've ever had at one time! So, I had already made my own guild (it's really cheap, only 100g) and so I finally was able to get my cape!

I traveled straight from my customer to the Guild Emblemer in Ascalon City. I designed the best cape ever. Then I hit "accept" and it said I didn't have enough money.

I started panicing... I had heard of scams before, but never thought it would be done to me! So I figured, "Well, maybe it was too much money to go into my inventory," so I checked my storage. My regular 29g was in there. My heart nearly stopped. I had been scammed.

10g shown up in my Inventory when I opened it... Not 10k. I was furious, but I had never been scammed before, so I didn't know what to do. I began telling everyone, "OMG I WAS JUST SCAMMED!" and no one seemed to care. So I tried to whisper the guy back and say "Um, can I please have my 10k?" After I pressed "enter" a green message popped up that said, **** is currently offline. From that point forward, I decided I was going to take a screenshot of every transaction I make... Either that, or be careful not to fall for the same scam again. Someone reffered to it as a "quick switch" when I asked what happened and how he scammed me. I'm not going to tell anyone how to do it, because I believe scamming someone is a just a very low thing to do. I know how bad it hurts to be scammed out of something you are really excited about, and I will never aid in scams either.

Moral of the story: Make sure you don't get fooled by scammers. Know your stuff before you sell something, like it's price. You can ask someone in-game or simply post your item on the forum here titled "price check". Don't fall victim to a scam. You won't like it at all.

some guy shouting in trade channel selling "gifts" that when you open a santa hat opens up and gets customized to you name. he was selling around.. 10k and 18k for 2?

of course me reading this shouted scammer and he left in couple of seconds.

for those who didn't know the "gifts" he claims to have were the "wintery gifts" from the wintersday event. ><
